川普是國家人才？

最近一個公開發表意見的是 NBA 上屆年度最有價值球員 Stephen Curry。

在去年總統選舉時，Curry 大力支持民主黨的候選人 Hilary Clinton，如今對於自己所代言的品牌 Under Armour 發言感到不滿，因為其執行長 Kevin Plank 公開讚揚 Trump 是「美國寶貴的人才」”a real asset to the country”。

“asset” 在英文中除了「資產」之外，也有「人才」、「優勢」的意思。Plank 在發言中使用 “asset” 比較接近「人才」的用法。

Curry 在接受訪問時，對於 Plank 的言論，他幽默回應：

“I agree with that description, if you remove the ‘et.”
「只要你把 “et” 拿掉的話，我就同意這樣的論述」



如果把 “asset” 中的 “et” 拿掉，就只剩下 “ass”。”ass” 用來罵人的時候不能解釋成「屁股」，而是「白痴」。婉轉一點的話，還可以用「混帳東西」”a-hole” 來形容。

像這種文字遊戲，常見的還有：



“The earth without art is just eh.”
「地球上沒有了藝術，就只剩下『欸』」





“There’s no I in team.”
「團隊中沒有自我」




“You can’t spell believe without lie.”
「信任仍存在謊言」





目前 Curry 和 UA 的合約簽到 2024 年，但因為這次事件，Curry 不排除提前解約：


“There is no amount of money, there is no platform I wouldn’t jump off, if it wasn’t in line with who I am.”
「這跟錢無關。如果不是因為違背我的價值觀，我不會選擇解約」





“in line with” 是「和 … 一致」。在體育新聞中，還會常看到 “on the line”「在細線上」，表示像走鋼索般「岌岌可危」。

例句：
“After losing three games in a row, their playoff hope is on the line.”
「在三連敗之後，他們晉級季後賽的希望岌岌可危」

勇於表態政治立場的金州勇士隊教練 Steve Kerr 也力挺子弟兵：


“This is a time when people are speaking out. This is a time when activism is into the forefront, all over the map.”
「這正是站出來說話的時刻，這是全面採取行動站上第一線的時候」



“activism”「激進主義」、「行動主義」，用來指為特定立場挺身而出的一種信仰。

相較起其他北美職業運動聯盟，「偏藍」的 NBA 是最投入政治領域發聲的聯盟。一線球星 LeBron James 和 Stephen Curry 也都公開表達立場，名教練如 Gregg Popovich、Stan Van Gundy 都大聲抨擊 Trump 的言論。白人比例較高的大聯盟和 NFL 就傾向不表態。

剛出爐的超級盃冠軍隊新英格蘭愛國者隊，陣中也已經有三位球員表達不會參與白宮參訪，用消極的行動反對 Donald Trump。
